DCMP's Keys to Access

Keys to Access

In this message from DCMP Director Jason Stark, he discusses the guidelines developed by DCMP to ensure the meeting of high quality standards for media accessibility features; the need for captioned and described educational media for millions of Americans who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, or deafblind; and DCMP's mandate to provide schools and families with free accessible educational media through funding from the U.S. Department of Education.

Key to providing these services has been the development and implementation of DCMP's Captioning Key and Description Key, which serve as the standard guideline for the creation of accessible media by professional captioners and describers around the world, as well as by educators and home video creators.
